Centres of Agricultural AI Vocational Excelence to Empower Agriculture sector to simplify AI adoption

CAAIVE

Europe’s innovation depends on strong talent and skills development, as highlighted by the European Skills Agenda, which prioritizes digital upskilling and reskilling. CAAIVE addresses this need by focusing on digital skills in agriculture, preparing farmers and students for Precision Farming and Agriculture 4.0. Its objective is to strengthen Europe’s agricultural innovation capacity through international networks of Centres of Agricultural AI Vocational Excellence operating at national and international levels. CAAIVE enhances digital literacy using no-code AI tools, establishes Digital Agricultural Skills Ecosystems, embeds AI in education, supports green transition readiness, activates an educational framework, and delivers grassroots, evidence-based policy recommendations.

Obiettivi del progetto

1) Enhance digital literacy of farming students and existing farmers by introducing simplified, no-code AI/ML solutions that enable data analysis and algorithm development without requiring programming skills.

2) Establish Digital Agricultural Skills Ecosystems (DASE) and four Regional CAAIVEs to serve as collaborative innovation hubs.

3) Embed deeper digital understanding and AI/ML algorithm creation into agricultural education.

4) Fostering a mindset adaptable to technological advancements and Green Transition

5) Activate CAAIVE Educational Framework

6) Develop grassroot level informed policy recommendations on Digital Skill Development

APPROACH / METHODOLOGY

CAAIVE adopts a learner-centred, practice-based and ecosystem-driven approach, combining non-formal education (NFE) with formal VET structures to develop digital skills in agriculture. The methodology is based on learning-by-doing, problem-based learning, and experiential learning, using workshops, hackathons, peer learning, field demonstrations, and living labs.

No-code AI/ML tools are used to ensure inclusiveness and accessibility for farmers and students with diverse digital backgrounds. Training activities are co-created with stakeholders within the Digital Agricultural Skills Ecosystems (DASE) and Regional CAAIVEs, ensuring relevance and real-world impact. Continuous feedback, monitoring, and alignment with the Green Transition support adaptability, quality, and sustainability.
