NGO NEST Berlin was born in 2016 out of an initiative by European-level professionals in the fields of NGO, Social Innovation, European projects, European mobility, Networking and Non Formal Education methods.
The organization aims at advancing human, social and socioeconomic development of young people through creating and deploying a multilayered set of educational activities targeted at young people in cooperation with NGOs and stakeholders at the different levels. This aim is pursued through an emphasis on networking with NGOs and stakeholder entities encompassing the local/regional/national dimensions (joint elaboration and implementation of educational programmes delivered through Non Formal Education methods involving different targets of the youth population ) as well as the European sphere (European project design, establishment of European networks of NGOs and stakeholders, offer of European mobility opportunities to young people).
NEST Berlin at the same time operates in connection with NGOs and stakeholders at the European level for the purpose of exchanging best practices in youth work and youth education, with the main aim of representing a transnational hub of innovation in NGO practices and coordination schemes between NGOs and stakeholders in Europe.
The organization manages “MITOSIS”, a co-working space in Berlin. The space represents an open hub of collaboration and innovation participated by a disparate set of local and international professionals working in fields as diverse as Programming, Art and Philosophy.
A cross-cutting driver of NEST NGO’s action is represented by the attention to the valorization and diffusion of the potential of Non Fornal Education (NFE) methods as a crucial pathway towards a more impacting and inclusive education functional to the environment and peculiarities of NGO actors. For instance, Non-formal learning activities are frequently based on private initiatives by NGOs. NEST acts to promote the advancement of NFE methods as well as the establishment of synergies among formal, non-formal and informal educational methodologies and environments.
NGO NEST Berlin is an organization of recent foundation (2016). At the same time, NEST Berlin can count on a professional staff with competences and experience in areas as disparate as Project Management, Non Formal Education methodologies, Networking and Communication (online as well as offline).
Key professionals within the organization’s structure have been involved in the management of international projects in the Erasmus Plus frame, both KA1 and KA1.
The organization works to develop initiatives of youth education based on NFE methods at the local,regional, national and European levels, in cooperation with stakeholders at the various levels taken into consideration.
NEST Berlin’s experience in Networking in an European dimension is consolidated by its membership of MV International (MVI), an international NGO network comprising 35 member organizations and 7 associate organizations from Africa (Cameroon, Kenya and Senegal), Latin America (Argentina) and Asia (India). MVI is a global platform, open to stake holding organisations and individuals with special expertise in the fields of Social Entrepreneurship, Non Formal Education and Sustainability.
NEST is also experienced in the field of social innovation at the international level. The organization regularly pursues this pattern of action through the management of the co-working space “MITOSIS”, participated by local and international professionals in different fields.
