“New Media New People” is a Youth Exchange in the frame of the Erasmus Plus Programme coordinated by the informal group Purple Cow and supervised by MVNGO, to be implemented in July 2017. Project Consortium is composed of 4 partner organizations from Poland (Youth of Europe), Spain (Intercambia), Romania (STEP) and Bulgaria (Champions Factory Sports Club).

The Youth Exchange will be attended by 30 youngsters aged 18-30 from the 5 countries involved.

This YE deals with the importance of reconciliation and peacebuilding processes stimulating the sense of solidarity and promoting intercultural dialogue. The fundamental topics are: intercultural dialogue through new media and active citizenship. During the YE, New Media tools (social networking sites, online video and photo channels) will be integrated with the non formal educational activities focused on the intercultural dialogue.

In Europe we all live in a multicultural environment. For each of us, knowledge related to multiculturalism is particularly important, especially for the cause of greater integration. Nowadays we need to educate youngsters to get rid of the stereotypes and prejudices tied to their cultural and Mass Media influenced “luggage”. The current situation of Europe, which is challenged with receiving and integrating refugees requires an innovative and more effective education of youth. Knowledge and attitudes connected with respect for others and respect for different cultures have to be spread among young people, who will form the Europe of tomorrow.

Nowadays, although being part of a multicultural environment, influenced by continuous migrations, integration problems still happen (to which quite often follow racist gestures). In this situation, youngsters are more and more engrossed in the new social networks, focused on showing off instead of being, and unfortunately they developed a strong apathy towards the reality that surrounds them. Therefore, objective of the exchange is to get youngsters to leave their comfort zone and make them live a real experience of integration between cultures, and especially make them aware that they can use their beloved social networks in a right, powerful and socially useful way. In addition, thanks to this experience they will become ambassadors of “knocking down” stereotypes and prejudices among their peers and their own local community.

The main objectives of the project are:

– Promote respect for different cultures and knowledge about different nations and religions;

– Launch dialogue and cultural exchange among the participants;

– Encourage respect for diversity and tolerance;

– Achieve a multiplier effect;

– Promote new media as a tool for spreading tolerance and respect for difference among youngsters;

– Make participants ambassadors of multiculturalism with their peers;

-Encouraged and stimulate participants to organize follow up activities.

The project is expected to represent a springboard for youth participants towards a greater engagement and dedication in social matters and fuller involvement in active citizenship.
